Tattoos have always been a part of human civilization. Starting in ancient times, men of the tribe, and sometimes even women, would tattoo themselves. The reason for this were special occasions, festive days or a successful hunt, for example. And the fact that we tattoo ourselves, has traveled with us throughout history to this, our modern age.
While many cultures around the globe tattoo themselves in different styles and on different parts of the body, and some even tattooing their entire body, as is the case in Japan and through Asia, for example, the most common and popular spot for a tattoo, is the forearm. This has become so popular in recent years, that nearly every young man has some kind of forearm tattoo.
The reasons for this are many. For example, tattoos on the forearm, are visible all the time, even if you wear a shirt, that would otherwise hide tattoos on other parts of the body. Even you would wear a long sleeved shirt, you could pull back your sleeves and reveal your tattoo for everyone to see. And also, another important reason why forearm tattoos are really popular, is the fact, that they do not hurt too much to make, as other tattoos do, due to the fact that the skin is naturally thicker around the forearms.
The meanings of different tattoos are also many. The most common form of forearm tattoo, are tribal shapes, objects and animals. Many men love to tattoo a tribal dragon or panther on their forearm, but since these shapes are so popular, people tend to be more unique and choose different kinds of tattoos. Animal heads, with different meanings are also common. A lions head signifies strength and protection, while a tiger would mean power and royalty. Flames, spikes and even plants that whine themselves over and around the forearm are also very common, and often seen. Also, many people choose to have their tattoo in color, which costs a bit more, and is a bit more work for the tattoo artist, but the results are much better then a plain black tattoo would be.
The fact remains, though, that forearm tattoos are widely popular among men all over the globe. While having such a clearly visible tattoo would have automatically marginalized people 50 years ago, nowadays, our society is much more tolerant and even high class office jobs would still hire someone sporting forearm tattoos on both his arms.
